Over the Advent weekend, our Senior Choir set off for Limerick to take part in RTÉ Lyric FM Choirs for Christmas concert. After an epic five-hour coach journey and a few Christmas movies we arrived at our lovely hotel where we had a delicious dinner and not long after headed off to bed, preparing for the busy day ahead of us. Bright and early on Sunday morning, after an amazing breakfast and over-energetic rehearsal for a weekend morning, we hopped back on the coach for a rather shorter journey to the University Concert Hall. Here the rehearsals and sound checks continued throughout the day – some on our own, some with other choirs and some with the fantastic Irish Chamber Orchestra directed by Des Earley. As part of the concert we performed Love Came Down At Christmas arranged by Ronnie Lee, Sir Christèmas by William Mathias and the ever-popular Jingle Bells arranged by David Willcocks. It was also a privilege to listen to the other brilliant choirs which ranged from a primary school to professional adult choirs and small vocal groups. Thankfully the audience enjoyed our performances and during the interval we were given a new piece of music to sing … in the second half! So a quick rehearsal with another choir and we ready to go – phew! Concert done, we still had a few hours ahead of us as we travelled back to East Antrim by 1am. It was a great weekend and everyone really stepped up to the occasion. Thank you to Miss Stewart who gave up her weekend to come along and Mrs Craig who organised a lot of the logistics of the trip. You can tune in to hear the concert at 1pm on Christmas Day – what better way to enjoy your Christmas Dinner!?
