"Welcome to Carrickfergus Grammar School, a thriving school community with a warm, positive atmosphere which values the academic promise of each individual child who joins us.

In a period of educational uncertainty for so many families we aim to provide welcome stability and a strong reassurance to parents that your child will be educated to their highest academic potential in a caring environment which challenges young minds whilst supporting personal development.
The overwhelming majority of our pupils enter Carrickfergus Grammar School as children poised on the most formative years of their lives, and leave us seven years later to meet their futures as well-rounded, well qualified young adults who are successfully placed to take the next step in their education; a credit to their school, to their families, but, above all, to themselves.

A combination of high academic expectations, strong pastoral support, and a wealth of extra-curricular opportunity awaits your child at Carrickfergus Grammar: indeed they will be helped to settle into school life by one of our Peer Mentors, a specially trained group of senior pupils. Our strengths have been recognised by our International Schools Award, our Goldmark Award for Physical Education, our Investors in People Award, and by our status as a Specialist School for the teaching of Science. Also many of you may have already been entertained either in person or through the national media by our outstanding school choirs.

At Carrickfergus Grammar we actively promote education not only as a route to further academic achievement, whether that be at our local universities or further afield, but also in its broader sense as a set of skills and experiences which will stand our pupils in good stead as they embark on adulthood. With this in mind I particularly welcome the growth of our School Council, a democratically elected group of pupils who work alongside staff on a wide range of important issues.

I hope you glean something of our strong sense of purpose from this website, but I also take this opportunity to extend to all parents a sincere welcome to the school should you wish to meet by appointment with a senior member of staff to discuss your child’s education.

K. W. Mulvenna
Principal

Furthur information may be obtained from the Headmaster, who will gladly interview parents by appointment and discuss with them questions relating to their child's education and career.
